Growing up, I spent a lot of time on the ocean. Its beauty always amazed me and I told myself that one day I would buy a house by the sea.
As I get closer to this dream, its becoming clear that our coastlines will dramatically change in my lifetime. Climate scientists predict exponential sea level rise in the coming decades irreversibly effecting our ideas of coastal living.
Looking out onto the open ocean, I am conflicted. The smell of brine, the crashing waves, both bringing me back home and filling me with apprehension. A jumble of my childhood memories and the fear of our uncertain future.
