A Walk in the Woods

Its hard to believe that summer may be coming to a close in the next few weeks, as the days have been melting away. Its been a joy watching my newborn son grow and change a little each day. While learning to be a new dad, I have been trying my best to find time to make prints, in between feedings, diaper changes, and the dreaded tummy time.

My newest print, “Emerson’s Walk” was made to celebrate those cool summer days, walking through the woods of upstate New York. In the hustle and bustle of NYC, I can’t help but to look to the transcendentalists, their concerns with the quickening industrialization of the 19th century mirrors my own 21st Century concerns with AI algorithms and data centers.

Creating handmade prints is one of my refuges from these concerns, with the physical nature of woodcut reconnecting me to the creators of the past.

Made from four woodblocks with 13 color layers

8.5 x 12 inches

A deep breath,

As I walk on, under the canopy

The sun illuminates,

Through my eye and soul,

Into the heart of a child,

A primal wonder,

Washed over me, absorbed

The cleansing light.

My prints included in the Susquehanna Art Museum

In other news, a selection of my prints where included in a wonderful printmaking exhibition at the Susquehanna Art Museum titled “Explore: Printmaking Techniques” . Explore: Printmaking Techniques presents a grouping of prints by four contemporary artists, each employing a different mode of printmaking.

Covering lithography, drypoint, chine collé, collagraph, and woodblock printing, the exhibition highlights the persistence of printmaking as a practice, and the way artists have embraced historic techniques while utilizing contemporary color, imagery, and materials.

These works by Becky Blosser, Rachel Mentzer, Junli Song and myself showcasing each artist’s unique process, while honoring the long-standing traditions of printmaking. More info can be found on the museums website. The exhibit opens August 19th through Nov. 8th, 2026.

Exchange, at the Word & Image Gallery in Treadwell NY.

I will also have a small selection of work in “Exchange”, a collaboration between the Word & Image Gallery, in Treadwell NY and Kentler International Drawing Space . Speaking of Kentler, I will also be co-teaching another 3-day workshop August 28th -30th along with the great Patty Hudak and Florence Neal. There are still a few slots available for those interested, more info can be found here.

And lastly, I am planning on traveling up to Boston for the Boston Printmakers, 2026 North American Print Biennial. Although I have lived on the east coast for over a decade, this will embarrassingly be my first visit to Boston. Being included in this years Biennial was the perfect excuse to go.

As always, a huge thank you to everyone who continues to support my printmaking, and inspire me to create new artwork.
