We finally reach the edge of the crater, ankles deep in red-grey ash. Overlooking, a great maw beneath us, the aftermath of eruption. Once called “America’s Fuji”, torn open, forever changed. The earth still flows beneath its surface, growing. New peaks form at its center, an ever changing landscape broken and rebuilt.
